Hello Monday

Hello quiet Monday, half day of school, lesson planning, warm breezes, time to reflect.

Good-bye full weekend with friends. Running amok in autumn air and through falling leaves, in costume and not.

And hello to reflecting on this quote… such a good thought when those nagging “what ifs” tread on me.
Also good bye to attempting 31 straight days of blogging, it’s not my season to attempt such things!

What are you saying hello to this week?

Hello Monday

20120827-062428.jpg

Hello to book discussion with friends! This time it’s all online, but still good. 7 of us are reading through Charlotte Mason’s philosophy of education & this week we’re on chapter 5. I loved this passage particularly. Written in the early ’20s Miss Mason was THEN worried about entertainment. She also talked about how awards systems don’t work within the classroom, that the students only retain what they need to know for the reward & then it’s gone. I haven’t used too many rewards with our children, in regards to schoolwork. But with what little we have done, I agree with her.

Still quoting & learning from the book One Thousand Gifts. I’m surprised the few readers I have, haven’t said- “Enough already!!”, but it has turned into a process for me. I’ve read it & listened to it, and journaled about it, given away copies & listened to particular chapters again.
We were taught the ACTS model of prayer several years ago at our church.
Adoration
Confession
Thanksgiving
Supplication
Thinking through those steps improved my prayer life for sure, and I think the message of 1,000gifts has done something similar. Learning to give thanks in any given moment ( good, bad, ugly, beautiful) opens a floodgate of an ACTS prayer. Being in constant communication with the one living God is the biggest blessing!
It is the living of 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

And Hello to this little redhead with “boing-boing curls” turning twelve. Inconceivable!!!!!!
This kiddo kicked & bounced in utero, jumped at loud noises even. She would coo & giggle to herself as an infant from day one. She loved on her little brother and trailed her big sister, they would gather all manner of stuffed toys and play “boat” in our big-overstuffed chair.
She has grown into a lanky, strong swimmer & excellent student who always has a sparkle in her eye & a heart for the Lord. And she is turning twelve Saturday!
Let the birthday week commence!

Hello Monday

Hello Monday, hello new week.
Hello to some organizing and planning. Suppers for the next two weeks are written out, ingredients bought.

20120521-080810.jpg
I don’t dare assign a meal to a day, I know better! If I assign spaghetti for Tuesday night, I’ll never want to eat that. I just pick out eight or nine meals & plan those. Only 8/9 leaves days for leftovers, take out, breakfast for dinner, etc.
I’m also spending some time on Pinterest looking for cute room organizing ideas. Every summer while my kids are at camp I gut their rooms & reorganize. They dread and love it at the same time. They are already asking me to not get rid of anything!

20120521-082211.jpg
But this is a quote I’ve been thinking about & subtly tossing into our conversations,
“When you own less, you take better care of the things you keep in your home….”
So here’s to working on “Good-Bye”
to so many things, slowly but surely.

Hello Monday ~ hello new week, lots of schedules, kids with more plans than me!
Hello to a dear friend’s visit! It’s been too long, and will be too short, but it will be!
Good-bye Mother’s day with family, an outdoor concert & some Scrabble.
And hello to the card game, Top Trumps! We have been having a blast playing the Star Wars spaceships version! Each card has a list of stats & the goal of the game is to compare these stats in order to try to trump and win an opponent’s card. It’s a game that all five of us can play in 15 minutes (say while we’re waiting at a restaurant).
They have many different themes and the kids have already requested more,
Ancient Egypt, Harry Potter (4 different versions) and more Star Wars (5 versions)!
I’m always thankful to find something we all can enjoy!

Hello Monday

20120402-061538.jpg
Hello to Easter art with paint boxes still at the table.
Hello to dinner planning and hosting a big family meal.
Good bye to spring break though I know this week will be far from routine.
Hello to Holy Week, full of services and thoughts of Christ’s sacrifice. Last year during this time I worked on memorizing Philippians 2:5-8: “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
I was working on a retreat team with a pastor who felt this was one scripture every Christian should have memorized. Even though I don’t think I could quote it word for word, I often find the words “he humbled himself by becoming obedient” in my mind. They give me focus no matter what task is at hand.

Hello Monday (it’s been awhile)

Hello to spring break! Not something we’ve been known to take yearly. But this year momma knows we need it.
Hello to reading aloud “Lord of the Rings” and then listening to the kids run off to play “Gandalf and Bilbo”
Good bye to the Hunger Games, read in 8 hours! I haven’t done that for years….

20120326-075328.jpg
I thought the book was okay, could have had a lot more depth to the characters. I did love reading it & then seeing the movie with in 24 hrs while everything was fresh in my mind. I thought the movie did well by the book.

20120326-075618.jpg
Hello to sprucing up that big blue wall with some pictures. They are nearly all iPhone shots & edited through the instagram app, which I love, and printed through postalpix .
The kids have all counted to make sure each is represented fair and square…and thank goodness they are! However our pup Hopey is the only pet represented.

20120326-080208.jpg
So you can bet these two will be in the next row!
What is your Monday shaping up to look like? Saying Hello to anything new or Good Bye to something you’ve finished? I’d love to read about it in the comments or on your blog!
I first saw a Hello Monday post at Salt & Chocolate a blog by a very creative momma, Mary Beth. Mary Beth links to Lisa who I believe began the Hello Monday posts.
I enjoy having these themes (like “This moment” on Fridays from Amanda Soule) to keep me blogging when time isn’t always on my side.
Blessings on your week friends!
