making plans

Last year I saw an amazing idea over at Sara’s blog ~ Handmade Homeschool ~ Christmas School! It took me all of three seconds to decide we were totally doing that for Christmas 2010. So here we are!

The plans are in the works, the kids invited a few friends & we picked out 7 days over a three-week span that will work for us. Right now themes for those seven days are:

Advent

The Christmas Story

The History of Christmas

Story & Craft Day

From St. Nicholas to Santa Claus

Christmas Around the World

Twelfth Night

The book above is Mrs Sharp’s Traditions by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I found it about 7 or 8 years ago & use it all the time.  She goes through all twelve months & highlights any holidays, celebrations & traditions. It includes gorgeous Victorian illustrations, wonderful words of wisdom & very doable activities for the whole family. Ms Ban Breathnach includes so much information about the Christmas season I haven’t had to look much farther than this book!
